Why this publication exists
LithiumEurope is a research and advocacy publication asking a practical question: does the battery transition deliver durable benefits when its full material, industrial and social costs are counted?
We examine Europe’s competitive position, the concentration of battery supply chains, extraction impacts and the consequences of failures. We also argue that established recovery systems—including those for lead batteries—deserve a meaningful place in policy and procurement.
Perspective & interests
This publication has an explicit advocacy perspective: it supports a more diverse battery economy and a stronger role for lead batteries in suitable applications. LithiumEurope is funded by companies active in the lead battery and lead chemicals value chain. Readers should assess that position alongside the sources, including evidence that challenges it.
Industry publications and commissioned studies are labelled. Company statements are attributed to the company. Citation does not imply that an organisation endorses LithiumEurope.

Editorial principles
- State the scope. Give the year, geography, technology and denominator behind a number.
- Follow primary evidence. Prefer investigators, public authorities, original research and identified company records.
- Separate finding from position. Make clear where a source ends and our interpretation begins.
- Keep inconvenient evidence. Include lifecycle benefits, recycling limitations and incorrectly attributed incidents.
- Keep a dated record. Identify the reviewed edition and revise claims when the evidence changes.
What a fair transition means to us
Lower emissions should be pursued alongside resilient industry, responsible extraction, safe installations and verifiable recovery. The burden of proof should apply to every chemistry and every green claim.
